What's new

The ArcGIS Experience Builder update includes new widgets, new templates, and more widget settings. Some of the highlights are listed below.

  • Animations—Animations for containers (such as Fixed Panel, Sidebar, and Row) support setting animations for contained widgets. With the update, you can now define when contained widget animations start relative to the container widget animation. You can also choose to play contained widget animations all at once or one by one.
  • Builder—You can now delete an app directly from the builder by clicking Delete under More on the builder toolbar.
  • Documentation—ArcGIS Enterprise web help is now available alongside ArcGIS Online documentation. You can use the new switcher located at the top of each topic to view other available versions.
  • Dynamic content—The expression builder supports MAX and MIN functions for date fields.
  • Page—The new Grid full-screen page layout allows you to add a page that behaves like a Grid widget. Any elements you add to a grid page share the page's entire space. This means when you add a new widget, it pushes aside other widgets or is added as a tab in a group with another widget. You can resize and group widgets to organize them. Grid pages are responsive. When you resize a browser or change between screen sizes, the grid resizes to fit.
  • Set link—In addition to a web address, you can now use the URL option to set a link to go to an email address, phone number, and more. Also, you can set links to Section widget views located in windows, in page headers and footers, and in other widgets (such as Column, Row, and Map widgets).
  • Sharing—When you update the sharing level of an application, you are prompted to also update the sharing levels of any contained data sources or items. Also, members of other organizations who have access to your content via distributed collaboration can view your apps and templates but now cannot make any edits unless you share via other means.
  • Table of contents—For items containing other items, you can now click Expand all or Collapse all to show or hide the underlying hierarchy in the outline.
  • Symbols—The Show on map message and data actions now allow you to customize symbols.
  • Templates—Adds nine new full-screen page templates—Route, Gear, Showcase, Events, Sketchbook, Kit, Chronology, Checkerboard, and Blank grid—one new multi-page template—Illustrator—and one new window template—Steps. Additionally, when you create an app in ArcGIS Enterprise using an ArcGIS Online template, the template may contain new features that are not available in your version of ArcGIS Enterprise. In such cases, you are now given a warning that the app contains features which your framework does support. Any widgets that only exist in higher versions of the product will not work and you should manually remove them. Similarly, if the app uses a newer theme, you should choose a different theme. When you save and reload the app or template, any remaining widgets and features are automatically downgraded to your version.
  • Utility service—The new Utility service panel allows you to add services that enable printing, geocoding, routing, and more. When applicable, widget settings now include options to select or add utility services. You can add by entering service URLs or selecting ArcGIS Online items. You can authorize public access to utility services through your ArcGIS account.
  • Windows—Settings now include a quick style option for background, border, and box-shadow.

Widgets

Other improvements include the following new and updated widgets:

  • 3D Toolbox widget (new)—Adds 3D effects and analysis tools to web scenes. Currently, the widget supports daylight, weather, shadow cast, and line of sight tools.
  • Coordinates widget (new)—Displays coordinates for maps and scenes. You can configure the widget with a variety of output coordinate systems and transformations.
  • Floor Filter widget (new)—Allows you to explore floor-aware maps and scenes made with ArcGIS Indoors.
  • Grid widget (new)—A layout container you can use to position and organize content in a grid on a page.
  • Print widget (new)—Allows printing web maps and includes options for previewing extents, selecting layouts, and more.
  • Timeline widget (new)—Allows viewing temporal data from web maps, feature layers, and map service layers to see how data changes over time.
  • Utility Network Trace widget (new)—Allows running traces in a utility network to optimize paths for resources to travel. A part of proper network management, tracing a network can help utilities deliver resources to customers, track the health of a network, and identify deteriorating areas. Users can create starting and barrier points to define the location of a trace.
  • Branch Version Management widget—Supports switching branch versions for map services. Additionally, versions can now be set using a URL parameter.
  • Chart widget—Supports calculating statistics by median. Adds an auxiliary guide setting for bar, column, line, scatter plot, and area charts, which you can use to highlight interesting values. Also, you can now customize the position of the value label for bar and column charts.
  • Coordinate Conversion widget—When entering an address, users can now choose from a list of autocompleted suggestions that appear based on matching records.
  • Directions widget—You can now save calculated routes as ArcGIS Online items. The widget now honors the units defined in your organization settings.
  • Edit widget—Allows you to choose whether to include the Geometry guides and Feature to feature snapping tools.
  • Embed widget—For security reasons, the widget now restricts what content you can embed by code. Currently, the widget supports URL content in an HTML iframe, and code shared from five popular social media sites: YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Vimeo.
  • Filter widget—Allows resetting all filters to their original states.
  • List widget—You can now align grid lists to the left, center, or right. Additionally, the widget allows resetting all list filters to their original states.
  • Map widget—For feature selection, you can now customize the highlight outline in addition to the fill, and you can customize transparency for both. Additionally, you can now place layout widgets such as Sidebar and Column directly onto the map.
  • Map Layers widget—Allows users to choose whether to show or hide labels for each applicable layer. If a layer is an ArcGIS Online item, clicking Details opens the layer's item page.
  • Query widget—You can now make all results expand by default. At runtime, users can now choose how many results to display per page using a drop-down menu or by entering a number.
  • Search widget—In addition to a page, you can now have search results open a specific window or section view or scroll to a block or the top of the current page. For locator sources, you can now choose one or more fields to display in the search result panel. You can drag selected fields to reorder them.
  • Share widget—Allows reordering of the share options.
  • Survey widget—Supports creating surveys without adding tags. In addition, the widget no longer automatically refreshes after users submit responses, meaning it stays on the thank you screen until users refresh the widget manually. If you want to configure autorefresh to allow users to submit multiple responses, you can use the Survey123 builder. You can now connect surveys owned by other users if they are shared with you.
  • Table widget—In the widget's settings, you can now turn each column's visibility on or off for when the widget first loads. (At runtime, users can change visibility with the Show/hide columns tool.) There are also four enhancements to the widget's runtime behavior. For fields containing long strings, users can hover over any cell to view its entire value in a ToolTip. URLs in cells automatically become live links. When the user exports to JSON, CSV, or GeoJSON formats, only the fields you select for display in the widget's settings are included in the export. Editing a cell's value no longer refreshes the table, meaning users do not have to redo any scrolling or sorting as they update cells. Additionally, a Table widget can now be updated by a Timeline widget that is connected to the same data.
  • Text widget—On scrolling pages, supports setting links to scroll to a particular block on the page or return to the top of the page.
  • Views Navigation widget—You must set a transition effect in the connected Section widget's settings to use the Views Navigation widget's Step setting.
